Important Message for AP Econ Students

If you are taking AP econ next semester please read the following important message from Mr. Rickling:

ATTENTION AP ECON SPRING SEMESTER STUDENTS:

“In the Long run, we are all dead, so hop on the good foot this Christmas!

Here is the summer (Christmas) assignment I would like you to complete:

Read Section 1 (Modules 1 - 4) in Krugman's Macroeconomics for AP.  The appendix is only necessary if you need to review graphing, (it can't hurt!) pp. 1 - 33.  I'll assign some problems in class.

Read chapters 1- 5 in Economics by Example (Don't buy it if you haven't already, get it from a Fall semester student!).  pp. 1 - 39.

There might just be a quiz on the 1st day as well!  Look forward to meeting you in January or seeing you again.

Quiz make-ups - Thurs 10/13

On Thursday (10/13) at lunch we will be doing test corrections and quiz make-ups.

Also, I have been experimenting with something called My Big Campus. In a lot of ways it is like Moodle but maybe easier for students to use. I am posting lecture videos there (as well as Moodle) but with the ability to discuss the videos and/or ask questions about the topics.

Let me know if this is something you are interested in and I will tell you how to sign up.

Corrections/make ups tomorrow AM

I will be in my classroom tomorrow by 7am if you want to come in early to do quiz make ups or test corrections. I will also be in my room at lunch.

Our next day for Test Corrections and Quiz make-ups will be at lunch on Tuesday, September 27th.

There is another extra credit opportunity that I think I have forgotten to mention to every class. If you write a letter to the editor of any publication (i.e. local newspaper, major newspaper, magazine, El Cid) and it is published you will earn extra credit. If you are not sure about the requirements, please come ask me.

I will not be available at lunch on Wednesday.  We will do test corrections and quiz make ups at lunch on Thursday. 

E.C. - Open House

There is a very special extra credit opportunity coming up on Saturday, October 15th. Our school is having its annual Open House for prospective students and families to check out our school. The Social Studies Department is going to demonstrate some sample lesson activities so our visitors can see what we do.

This will be led by Ms. Padgett, Mr. Filippone, Mr. Owen, and myself. We need students to commit to being here for one hour blocks (10-11, 11-12, 12-1, or 1-2).  If you are interested in helping out your school and earning some extra credit (and some free food) please sign up in my classroom.

As of now, you can only sign up for one block. When we get closer to the date you can sign up for extra blocks if we still need more people. The other teachers are extending this opportunity to their students as well.

Also, we will have test corrections and quiz make-ups tomorrow (9/21) at lunch.

Politifest

New extra credit opportunity: attend Politifest, take a picture of yourself there and email it to me along with a brief summary of what you witnessed.

Politifest is this Saturday from 10-2 at Liberty Station. More info here - www.Politifest.org

E.C. Opportunity

Tonight (Monday, Sept 12) there is a GOP debate scheduled for 5pm on CNN.  You can participate in a discussion about the debate while it is happening in GOV CHAT.

Also, this Wednesday (Sept 14) at lunch I will be in my room for quiz make-ups and test corrections.
